What is going on?
If you aren't a part of pop culture, let me give you the inside scoop on a popular trend. Two words, Rebecca Black. This name has exploded over the last couple of weeks, based on her new successfully failed music career. Rebecca Black is a teenage girl, who starred in a music video that went viral on Youtube, less than a month ago. I'm not going to go into too much detail about her, but essentially, she is a signed artist for a record label called, Ark Music Factory. Ark, is a small record label, that typically produces music for teenagers or younger. They haven't had any major hits until now.
First Impressions
The other day, I was sitting down, eating dinner with a few friends, who were talking about a video they had scene on Youtube. I had no clue what they were talking about. They told me that I had to watch it and that it was the funniest thing they had ever scene. I home and upon my arrival, I found my roommate laughing hysterically at his computer. He asked if I had seen the video, "Rebecca Black's Friday." I sat down and watched it. At first I thought it was pretty funny, hearing that she had a really off pitch voice and that her lyrics were so dumbed down enough for a six year old to understand. I legitimately thought that the video I was watching was a comedy.
Second Impressions
When you watch the video, you can tell that it was shot and edited very professionally and that there was some serious effort that went into making the video. Everything else came off as a joke. There's one problem with this. It wasn't meant to be! Rebecca, the record label, her family and friends most likely thought it was a great contribution to the world of music and that they were hitting a great target audience by using realistic lyrics and providing an image that portrayed a fun, and crazy atmosphere that most kids could or wished they could relate to. Instead, they caught the ridicule of, almost the entire Internet community.
What's the problem?
I don't want to be a writer who whines and complains, however I have made an observation about our society, that I felt was significant enough to share. Before being blessed with the story of Rebecca Black's contribution to the Music Industry, people were making it a point to share it with me. They wanted me to watch her video. Why is that? My conclusion is this; people feed on each other. It doesn't matter what the emotion is, we're all trying to find our next food for discussion or our next joke topic. This phenomena can be recognized in many facets of life. When our mothers went to the salon to get their hair and nails done; what did they talk about? They gossiped. What else was there to do while they sat there? Some of you small town folk, know exactly what I'm talking about. Some ladies live off of their weekly gossip sessions with the other ladies. In our modern society, we have the most advanced communication system we have ever scene. We are connected to each other in so many ways. Now, we can talk via Facebook, Youtube, Myspace, AIM or though our cell phones, which happen to have all of those applications already on them. We have texting which allows us to maintain a conversation all day with as many pauses as we need. We have become so connected, with each other that we are actively searching for our new content to feed the masses with. In Rebecca Black's case, her attempt at becoming a pop singer turned into content that we all fed on. Rebecca Black was the pray and she was eaten alive.
Thanks for reading.

I think this was the worst song I've ever heard. I am a hater, but really? How on God's green Earth did she get picked up? I can sing better than her, do not need autotuning but I do not have a recording contract. If you listen to the unplugged version, you can tell just how terrible a singer she is. Her music is a crime against humanity. I'm sorry, but I hope she never has another single release again.
Worst song ever. is her singing even human

I actually thought the video was a spoof at first. Does she really think it sounds good? I am not a hater, but come on?
Its auto tuned, and she keeps saying friday over and over. That is not creative, and she has a monotone singing voice.
The music industry is turning into a joke with people like her, justin bieber, Lil Wayne etc..
